VookNook (“we”, “us”) operates an independent marketplace where readers buy eBooks, Vooks (video-enhanced books), novels, and audiobooks directly from independent authors, publishers, and content creators. VookNook is registered in the United States.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who visits vooknook.com, creates an account, or sells on the platform.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the marketplace:
- Account information — your name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Seller information — your storefront name, bio, and the books and files you upload, plus your seller subscription status.
- Order and payment information — what you bought and when. Card details are handled by our payment processor and never stored on VookNook servers.
- Content you create — reviews you post on books you purchased, favorites, and authors you follow.
- Support and communication — messages you send us about your account, orders, or rights issues.
- Technical data — your browser type, device, and log information, used to keep the service secure and working correctly.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and maintain your account and sign you in securely.
- Process orders, deliver purchased books, and handle refunds and disputes.
- Run seller storefronts, subscriptions, listing limits, featured placements, and seller payouts.
- Show the marketplace to you — browse, search, recommendations, and personalized shelves.
- Send service emails (receipts, account and security notices). Marketing emails are only sent if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
- Detect fraud, enforce our Terms, and comply with the law.
4. What we never do
We never sell your personal data. We do not share your personal information with advertisers, and we do not send your details to third parties for their own marketing.
5. Sharing with others
We only share personal information where it is needed to run VookNook:
Service providers — companies that host our site, process payments, and send email on our behalf. They may process your data only as needed to provide those services.
Sellers — when you buy a book, the seller sees your first name and the title purchased so they can fulfill the order and support you. Sellers cannot see your email address or payment details.
Legal reasons — if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of VookNook, our users, or others.
Business transfers — if VookNook is ever sold or merged, customer data may transfer with the business; this policy would continue to apply.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and remember your cart. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. You can clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings at any time, though signing out may follow.
7. Children’s privacy
VookNook is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Children may enjoy the books sold on the marketplace, but accounts must be created by an adult. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live — including rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — you may have the right to:
Access the personal information we hold about you.
Correct or delete your personal information.
Request a portable copy of your data.
Opt out of marketing emails at any time.
Ask us to delete your account entirely.
We do not sell personal information or “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so no separate “do not sell” mechanism is required. To exercise any right, contact us using the details below. We will verify your identity before acting on a request.
9. Data retention
We keep your account and order records for as long as your account is active, so you can access your purchases and we can meet tax, accounting, and legal obligations. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal information within 90 days, except records we must keep by law.
10. Security
We protect your information in transit and at rest, restrict access within our team to those who need it, and store passwords and payment credentials only through industry-standard providers. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take protecting your data seriously.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the marketplace evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or with a notice on the site before the changes take effect.
